Alpha

Alpha

Alpha is a proven means of helping people enter into a personal relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit. It has been used in 169 countries (and counting!), communicated in over 112 languages, and experienced by over 25 million people around the world. It is the tool that Saint Mary has chosen to use to respond to our Lord’s call, and Bishop Boyea’s call, to “Go and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19). Free dinner and childcare is provided. If you miss a week of Alpha, you can watch the session’s video here.

This page is designed to help St. Mary parishioners better understand what Alpha is and how we can all get involved and support it. Click on the links below the registration form for more information!

Alpha is:

  • A series of interactive sessions that freely explore the basics of the Christian faith
  • For Catholics, non-Catholics, non-Christians, anyone!
  • An 10-week commitment, in which individuals meet once a week and includes a day-long retreat
  • A form of pre-evangelization and evangelization presented by ordinary Christians
  • Discussion involving the whole person—our intellect, our heart, our conscience, and our will
  • An opportunity to meet people where they’re at, to share authentic conversation among new friends
  • A journey of growing our faith and developing a closer, and deeper relationship with Jesus

You don’t have to be a theologian to invite people to Alpha. It’s simply a good meal, a video, and then good conversation about life’s most important questions. Each discussion group is led by trained table leaders.

Yes, please do! Although we can accommodate a certain number of walk-ins for each session, registering in advance will help us plan for food and activities. Simply register above!

No, you don’t, but you might find that it will be helpful to attend with them.  In either case, make sure that your guest and you (if you’re attending) register above. For more information, contact ssalow@stmarypinckney.org.

Assuming you have not attended before, absolutely! We’d like everyone at St. Mary to experience Alpha. If you have already attended once and would like to attend again, please bring a friend who is new to Alpha.

It takes the help of many people to run an Alpha session: greeters, food servers, discussion group leaders, childcare helpers, etc. We can use your help, even if you can serve for only one week. For more information on how you can help, contact Sarah at ssalow@stmarypinckney.org.

Other ways you can support Alpha are:

Pray for those who will be attending Alpha and for those you could invite.

Accompany someone you are inviting to the Alpha course.
