We use a plugin named Simple Calendar to “style” the calendar created from a Google Calendar ID. We can choose the colors of the bars across the top of each date square (separate choices for today’s date, days with events, days with no events) and we can style the text easily.
With a developer’s assistance, we can do further styling but for the most part, we use the settings of the plugin. Each calendar can be styled differently with respect to the bar colors. We can also “group” Google calendar ID’s together so that events from 2 or more Calendar ID’s can show on the same calendar grid.
A developer can also extract the calendar data and style it further (developer time is required to do this) but I can provide some examples of other sites/calendars we’ve done if you would like to see them.

I wasn’t able to pull an iframe code from any of these calendars (but I can send instructions on how to find the <iframe> code) but my work calendar as an embedded <iframe> code, without the styling from the Simple Calendar plugin, would look like this:
Using an <iframe> code doesn’t allow for any changes to colors, etc. – what you see is what you get.
